Whole group photo

This photo is showing our whole group getting involved with the filming at directing, while shooting a scene from the thriller opening.
I am on the camera, Saskia on the sound, Arielle directing and Mira is making sure the lighting complements the actors at that moment on the screen.

what happening during the shoot

What we did well:
  •       Timing-got everything prepared with plenty of time to shoot.
  •      Worked well rotating rolls from director to camera
  •       Decided on our new idea and agreed without delay
  •       Staged the set well
  •        Make up for the victim was well put on and looked realistic.

     What went wrong:
  •       We had to change our idea
  •       Getting into the studio the costume for one of the Special Forces men looked like a villain.
  •        Didn’t use our shot list
  •        Changed the order in doing things.

Could have done better:
  •  Maybe tried on the costumes before the shooting day so we could have prepared ourselves so our idea was not changed on the day.

Suggested target audience

My suggested target audience would be a middle aged (30+) male who enjoys and likes tension and thrilling scenes.
Our target audience would not be any younger because younger ages would not be able to enter the cinema to view the product as it would be either a 15 or 18. Older men normally direct themselves at thrillers because it excites them. The target audience would be male because all the characters are male, it is action based, which attracts a male audience much more than a female audience. The characters in my thriller will be all male so it becomes much more relatable.

During our film I think there will include violence and danger, which would suit our target audience very well as this particular age group enjoys those elements of a film.

Shot List

A shot list is a variation of a story board however it is set in a narrative order. It is set out in what shot you will film first, for example if one of your actors can not be on set for a couple hours in the afternoon you film their scenes first so you do not waste time and money on set.

It helped us be extra prepared and know exactly what we were going to shoot first on the day. However on the day of our shooting we changed our shot list as unfortunately we lost one of our actors so had to change it around slightly.

Although we did use it for some sections of the shooting especially the main characters shots as they did not change a lot.

The job of a set designer for film/TV

Being a set designer means you are in charge of creating and designing the set that is seen on TV, films and also in the theatre. The job hold as lot of responsibilities, which includes reading the script, drawing and making models of the set, which should then give them an estimate of how much it will cost and then managing the budget given to them. They have to attend just as many rehearsals  as the actors to review and look at the space being used and meeting with set construction companies, communicating with directors, producers, costume designers and different members of staff.
They may also manage a team that includes art directors, assistant art directors, storyboard artists and model makers.
To become a set designer you need to have the energy and creativity to produce and come up with original ideas. This job requires determination and enthusiasm because the set design builds the show gives the film/TV programme etc excitement, especially when shooting in LA but making it look like a different country or city, so this involves getting involved and studying the city/country your setting.
Set designers also get last minute changes from the producers or directors so they have to work with adaptation and working well under pressure, which may take patience.
A lot of experienced set designers especially film set designers are commonly work self-employed.
